My research focuses on the notion of play as a performance strategy. I broadly defines my work as
time-based improvisational sculpture that extends into social space. All is purposefully temporary and not meant to last over time. I received my MFA from U.C. San Diego and my BA from UCLA.
In 2008 I co‐founded The Nationwide Museum Mascot Project with Christen Sperry Garcia. The project engages in sight specific improvisational object making, and performance. In 2012, we “mascot-ed” fifteen museums for our first Summer Tour. In 2014 we went on the road again with our LA‐LA Tour: Los Angeles to Latin America. In 2013, I was the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego’s Robert Caplan Artist‐in-Residence.
From 2016 to 2018 I was the SOVA Director designated Artist-In-Residence at Penn State University where I taught Foundations. From 2017 to 2018 I was the Penn State Edwin C. Zoller Gallery Director.
In addition to teaching I was the UTRGV School of Art and Design Gallery Director under Covid (2019-21), where I am proud to have overseen the implementation of virtual exhibitions on social media platforms, and the Gallery’s website which includes a collection of over fifteen ZOOM talks from nationally, and internationally know Visiting Artists and Scholars which will be part of the School of Visual Art and Design’s permanent archive.
I am a husband and a father of two little boys. In my free time I collect Comic Books, thrift store shop, go to the movies. My favorite pass time is coffee with friends.
